Domestic abuse is an incident or pattern of incidents abusive behaviour between those aged 16 or over who are, or have been, intimate partners or family members.  

 

Behaviour is deemed as ‘abusive’ if it consists of any of the following:

  • Physical or sexual abuse

  • Violent or threatening behaviour

  • Controlling or coercive behaviour

  • Economic abuse

  • Psychological, emotional or any other abuse

 

If you are experiencing abuse there is support available to you. You can:

 

  • confide in your line manager or occupational health

  • contact the Domestic Abuse Practitioner within the specialist safeguarding service who provides advice, support and guidance for Northumbria Healthcare staff - please contact them on 0191 282 8900.

 

If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 999 and ask for the police.
