Making Every Contact Count (MECC)

MECC logo-01.png

MECC is a national evidence based programme aimed at helping individuals access health and wellbeing support, particularly those at risk of poor health and with long term conditions. The approach is designed to encourage and support people to make healthier choices to achieve positive long-term behaviour change.

MECC enables the opportunistic delivery of consistent and concise healthy lifestyle information and enables individuals to engage in conversations about their health and wellbeing.

Utilising a MECC approach in the organisation is key to building a culture and operating environment that supports continuous health improvement through the contacts it has with individuals.

Northumbria Healthcare has adopted a ‘Train the Trainer’ Model which will enable the cascade of Core MECC training across the organisation – further information can be requested by emailing Louise.Swash@northumbria-healthcare.nhs.uk.

The MECC Gateway provides an overview of services and organisations in the NE and Cumbria which you can signpost someone to using the ‘Ask, Assist and Act’ model.
